I am so excited (and a little bit nervous) about the fact that I have just launched my very own YouTube channel! In keeping with my other social media channels it is called Hello Hooray blog (although my website title has exclamation marks, I can’t use them on Facebook so I have to be consistent!). It is something that I have been working on for quite a few weeks now and after a lot of hard work it is now live for the world to see. Eek!

It has been quite a steep learning curve for me in terms of getting to grips with the technology. I managed to upload the videos last night (having spent all day working super hard on finishing them off) but I had issues with thumbnails argh…but this morning I have fixed it and I even managed to install a thingy-bob that lets me put them on my blog too. Yay!

[embedplusvideo height=”480″ width=”800″ editlink=”http://bit.ly/1CwAoRI” standard=”http://www.youtube.com/v/k4YUhor6EVk?fs=1″ vars=”ytid=k4YUhor6EVk&width=800&height=480&start=&stop=&rs=w&hd=0&autoplay=0&react=1&chapters=&notes=” id=”ep2103″ /]

At the moment you can see the ‘welcome’ video (see above) and my first tutorial, which is about how to make envelopes. This was how I really got into crafting and so it seemed fitting that it was my first one! I’m not currently feeling that confident at being in front of the camera so for now, you’ll mainly see my hands in the tutorials! I did want to introduce myself properly though, so you can see me on camera in my first video. Here is my envelopes tutorial:

[embedplusvideo height=”480″ width=”800″ editlink=”http://bit.ly/1CwAFEj” standard=”http://www.youtube.com/v/ht33U1yLcb0?fs=1″ vars=”ytid=ht33U1yLcb0&width=800&height=480&start=&stop=&rs=w&hd=0&autoplay=0&react=1&chapters=&notes=” id=”ep7838″ /]

One of the things that has been brilliant about making these is that Tom has composed some original music for my videos. I gave him a very brief brief, which was basically that I wanted some jolly tunes that people could hum along to as I do love a good tune! I also wanted the music for each video to be sort of the same but different – thankfully he knew what I meant by this, so the music uses the same instruments to tie them together. The opening and closing credits are the same for each video, but listen out for the different bits he has written. I am so grateful to Tom for writing this for me (thank you!). If you’d like, you can check out his website – Ordered Sound. I also want to say a big thank you to my lovely sister-in-law, Naomi, who first encouraged me to have a go at making some videos, and also showed me how to use iMovie and Garageband (which I use to make them). Thank you!

I am working on a few more ideas at the moment and so hopefully there will be more on the way soon. If you would like to subscribe to my channel that would be brilliant – just pop over to my channel and say hello. Thank you! Hope you have a super weekend

We’ve been posting about this summer’s nautical trends on our blog and decided to design a project that you can make at the weekend. We were keen to do some fabric painting, and this is the result! It’s a DIY tutorial post so we take you through each step, and you can download the PDF template too. To see the full tutorial, click here.

The School of Thrift has had a wedding theme for the last couple of weeks, and it has been really inspiring to see lots of ideas on the Festival of Thrift Google+ page! [Edit: Google+ now no longer exists, so you’ll have to believe me!). I’ve already written a tutorial post about how to make some simple thrifty fabric bunting, and I wanted to show you how to make a bouquet too. So here’s my tutorial: how to make a floral bouquet. It’s actually surprisingly easy, and if you’re looking to have a crafty wedding or a wedding on a budget, then it’s one of the ways that you can save money and create something beautiful and unique to you. I made the bouquet in the photo for just £10!

To make a floral bouquet you will need:

Some flowers (I used roses and spray carnations for this bouquet)
Some floristry tape (not the waterproof one)
Sharp scissors
Floristry pins
Ribbon

Step 1:

Step 2:

Step 3:

Step 4:

Step 5:

You’ll need to do a few practice runs before the real thing – experiment with different colours and flowers and pick your favourites too This is my actual wedding bouquet – I bought flowers from various stalls on York market to put it together:

Here are a few final tips!

I’ll be doing one more post about wedding planning – look out for that this weekend! :-)[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

I’m so excited that my latest tutorial for The Festival of Thrift has gone live today! It’s wedding week over at The School of Thrift and I was delighted to be asked to write some content for it. This time last year, we were in the middle of our wedding planning (which was well-documented on this little blog!) and it has been so lovely to think back to that happy time and share some of our ideas.

We were lucky enough to be able to borrow our family bunting to decorate our wonderful wedding venue, and the bunting is made from fabric contributed by Tom’s Aunt’s wedding guests a few years ago. It was such a lovely project to make and I thought this would make a perfect tutorial to share with you – you can recreate it with your friends and family for a wedding or any other special occasion!

This tutorial is available exclusively on the Festival of Thrift Google+ page – I’d love to hear what you think! Look out for more wedding-themed content this week too!
