Shared Parental Leave | Hello! Hooray!

Our experience of Shared Parental Leave

When we found out that we were expecting our first baby, we decided that I wouldn’t write posts about Little One on my blog. We both felt that we didn’t want photos online, and I wasn’t really keen for this to become a Mummy blog when there are so many great ones out there already! But we decided to make an exception with this post to tell you all about our experience of Shared Parental Leave. We don’t know anyone else who has done it and when we tell other people about it, it seems like a lot of people don’t realise that it’s an option. The whole experience has been so positive for us that we wanted to share our experiences, explain how it works and point you in the direction of some useful resources if you’re thinking that you might want to share your leave.  Read More

Creativity takes courage | Hello! Hooray!

Creativity takes courage

Sometimes, I think too much. I’ve had one of those days today and my mind has been wandering a bit – some of it good, some of it not so good! But then I remembered something that one of my friends posted on Facebook this week and it reminded me of the quote ‘creativity takes courage’. Like me, she’s a musician by trade and she began working on a massive composition project a few years ago. It was 6 years ago in fact! It was her life during her Master’s degree but since then a lot has happened, including the birth of her son, and needless to say this has changed her life a lot. But this week she talked about not being the woman who stops chasing her dreams, and about how she has recently been able to do work on this project whilst balancing being a Mum – and it really resonated with me! It was so good to get back into my blogging with my post earlier this week, and I don’t think I realised how much I had missed it. In my head I wasn’t sure how it would fit in with being a Mum, but even having just 5 minutes to edit and post a photo on Instagram or jot down an idea in my notebook makes me really happy! And I’m glad to have friends that remind me of this. Being a Mum is the most amazing thing in the world and I can try to balance that with snatching time to work on things where I can, when I can. I can give Tom time to work on his projects too. I want Little One to grow up in an environment where creativity is encouraged, knowing that she can do or be anything that she wants to, and that she can achieve anything if she puts her mind to it.  Read More

Hello, Little Girl! | Hello! Hooray!

Hello, little girl!

Well hello there, friends! It has been a long long time since I wrote a post on my blog…for those of you who are new here, I was expecting my first child in April. I’m pleased to say that she arrived safely and we are loving getting to know her. Here she is enjoying her patchwork playmat and tummy time pillow that I made. If you read my post announcing my pregnancy, you’ll know that I’m not going to be posting pictures of Little One on my blog – but I made an exception for these ones because it’s just the back of her. Hello, Little Girl! Check out that hair – she was born with all that 🙂  As you can probably guess, she has a lot of colour in her life – and a lot of animal prints.

Decluttering | Hello! Hooray!

Decluttering

As much as I have put off admitting this over the past few years, it is now time for a declutter at home. Such is the level of decluttering required, it will no doubt be known in the future as ‘The Great Declutter of 2015’ – but it really will be worth it! Naturally, most of the aforementioned clutter belongs to me…I have this ability to keep things ‘just in case –  it’s sure to come in handy’. And inevitably it doesn’t. So now is the time and we are both ready to do this (yes, Tom has his own clutter too – he just pretends that it’s all mine!).  Read More
