Tutorial: Mini Christmas cards and envelopes

This year I decided to make mini Christmas cards and envelopes (well, A7 sized ones). This was because I found some super cool Christmas pudding paper (made by Vivid but I bought it in Fenwicks in Newcastle) that I wanted to cut up and stick on to a card, and I decided that a single pudding would have got a bit lost on a bigger card. But my Christmas plans have been incredibly last-minute and I was up until midnight on Tuesday making and writing them so that I could make the 2nd class post deadline – argh! Earlier this year I decided to share my trade secrets about how to make envelopes, and I was really pleased with how popular the post was! So I thought it was about time that I do a second envelope tutorial, but this time showing you how to make lined envelopes. They are really good for a special occasion and you can customise them to any colour scheme you want to. I used tissue paper for the lining, but you could use any pretty paper – just make sure that it isn’t too thick, otherwise it will be difficult to fold the envelope. Continue reading…

Felt Christmas decorations

There are some lovely felt Christmas decorations in this month’s edition of Mollie Makes magazine, and I just had to have a go at making them! They have been designed by Samantha Stas, and she has decorated them in a fabulous retro style. Samantha stitches hers on a sewing machine but I decided to do mine by hand – mainly because my sewing machine was hidden away when we had the boiler fitted this week! I love hand sewing anyway, so you can choose what you prefer to do. I chose some red and green felt and some lovely ribbons and threads to make them: Continue reading…
