A very versatile lamb recipe

This is a great recipe for mince and dumplings and it is one of our household favourites. The reason it is versatile is because you can create several different meals simply by substituting a few ingredients. If you use lamb mince and substitute the dumplings for mashed potato the recipe becomes Shepherd’s Pie, or substitute the lamb for beef mince and top with mashed potato to create Cottage Pie. Brilliant! The recipe is very easy to make, and as it takes less than an hour to cook you could even make it during the week. You can make a low-fat version by using lean mince, or even Quorn mince. I usually freeze half of the mince for another day – the amounts below will serve 4 people. Continue reading…

Bake your own bread | Hello! Hooray!

Bake your own bread

Today was the first Saturday that I’ve been at home for a few weeks, so I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to bake some bread. I think that some people are put off making it because they think it might take too long or that it might be too difficult to make, but it is much easier than you think (and also very cheap!). My bread usually has a very homemade look, but for me that makes it even better. It’s so lovely to bake your own bread, and it makes your house smell amazing! 🙂

Making our wedding invitations (part 1)

I’m so excited about our wedding next year, and what makes it even more exciting is that we’re designing and making a lot of things together. We’ve been talking about getting married for a long time now so we have a good idea of the kind of things we’d like to have, but it’s always fun to look around for more inspiration. We decided that we’d rather co-ordinate things rather than have everything matching, but there will probably be lots of pink, purple and cream.

Oaty apple crumble | Hello! Hooray!

Oaty Apple Crumble

It has been a lovely, sunny autumn day today, and as the nights draw in I find that I’m craving comfort food! I have to admit that I have a bit of a sweet tooth, and this Oaty Apple Crumble is definitely one of our household favourites. This recipe has developed over time as I’ve added extra ingredients and experimented with others, so see the optional ingredients to create your perfect crumble. I always freeze half of the apple and crumble, but it is really quick and easy to make – even as a mid-week treat!

Hello | Hello! Hooray!

The first post on my new blog!

The first post on a new blog is always a momentous occasion. It feels as though you should say something important and thought-provoking, which is always really tough! I have to say that I can’t think of anything like that at the moment (sorry!) but I am really excited to be writing this new blog about the things that I love – crafts, cooking and gardening. Some things that will appear here will be tried and tested favourites, others will be new adventures (such as crochet, which could produce some interesting results…). I hope you enjoy reading my ramblings – feel free to get in touch!

Clare 🙂
