Leicester University Botanic Garden

I was away at a conference this weekend with my day job, as a few of us were speaking about a reading test that we have developed for our international students. I was really worried about it, but thankfully it went much better than it played out in my head beforehand and I’m very relieved about this! On Saturday morning there was a bit of time where we didn’t really fancy going along to a talk, and as we were staying close by we decided to wander along to the Leicester University Botanic Garden. It really is an oasis of calm! And it was such a beautiful day, so it was really great to get some fresh air and enjoy the garden.  Read More

Hello! Hooray! | Filofax inserts

Filofax inserts

About a year ago, I decided to have a revamp of my Filofax inserts and wrote a little tutorial for my other crafty project, Less Grafting More Crafting. I fancied having a change with the inserts recently and thought it would be good to freshen everything up (including the tutorial), which was good because we’re actually having issues with our site at the moment so it’s not currently available. It was a really popular tutorial and I’m sad that our site is down, but we’re working hard to solve the issues asap! Making new inserts for your Filofax is really easy and it’s a great way to personalise your organiser. When I made my original inserts I included all sorts of things, but with this second revamp I’ve really worked out what I need and what works for me, so you can do the same too. It’s a very personal thing, using your organiser, so I hope you find some of these things useful and that you might give this project a go!  Read More

Smiley jammy dodgers

Don’t you just love a jammy dodger? These ones are special: they are smiley jammy dodgers! I spotted the cutters for these biscuits in Lakeland a while back and just had to get them. They are brilliant! You get four shapes in the pack, with the front and back cutters for each one. I love their smiley faces so much 🙂 One of my friends said that these ones taste a bit like Viennese whirls, which is good as they are her favourite! Read More

Spring in our garden

It’s finally spring in our garden – hooray! 🙂 We spent a couple of days in the garden at the weekend and it was so lovely to be out there. On Friday the weather was glorious and so I did a bit of painting to brighten up our front door. It used to be white and was looking a bit grubby, so it was great to freshen it up and have a change of colour. I didn’t think Tom would go for it, but he’s really pleased with how it turned out!  Read More

Strawberry and banana smoothie

So Easter has been and gone, and it’s back to work tomorrow. I’ve been doing my best to avoid the Sunday blues by keeping super busy all day – I’ve actually done quite well for once, which is really unusual for me! I’m trying not to focus on the negative things about going back, as we’ve had such a lovely holiday. So instead, I’ve been trying to think about how I’m going to do a bit more exercise (now it has been okayed by the physio) and how we can eat more healthily. I found this in my recipe book the other week and decided I’d make it this weekend. I don’t like to eat bananas, but I had forgotten how yummy they are in this! ‘Recipe’ is probably putting it a bit strongly as it’s SO easy to make, but it’s really good and is sure to kick-start a bit of healthy eating.  Read More
