Craster Harbour | Hello! Hooray!

A day out in Craster

We’ve had the week off this week for reading week (or half term, if you teach in a school!) and it has been lovely to have a few days at home. Last week was completely manic with the busiest week of the year in the day job, combined with playing in a show every night, but we survived and have been able to get some rest this week. Phew! ūüôā A lot of sorting out has been done (see my post on decluttering – it has begun!) and I finished my dress for the Simplicity Blogger Challenge too. We also had a day out in Craster in Northumberland – it’s a beautiful seaside village with a few quaint shops, a lovely little harbour and a great restaurant. Perfect for a day trip!¬† Read More

Simplicity bloggers challenge | Hello! Hooray!

Simplicity blogger challenge

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been working on my dress for the Simplicity blogger challenge – and (with only a couple of days to spare) I have finished. Phew! When I heard about the challenge I knew I’d have to give it a go, and had an idea of what I wanted to do straight away. Other than my Tilly and the Buttons Coco dress (which I still haven’t blogged about) I have never actually made a dress! I have made tops and skirts, waistcoats and even that pair of trousers for Tom, but never a dress.¬†This is also my first time adapting a pattern too, so I really have learnt a lot by making this dress!¬†Having completed it, I’m definitely hooked on making dresses, so I will have to get around to making more. This dress is entered in the ‘best dressmaking project’ category. Read More

Decluttering | Hello! Hooray!

Decluttering

As much as I have put off admitting this over the past few years,¬†it is now time for a declutter at home. Such is the level of decluttering required, it will no doubt be known in the future as ‘The Great Declutter of 2015’ – but¬†it really will be worth it! Naturally, most of the aforementioned clutter belongs to me…I have this ability to keep things ‘just in case – ¬†it’s sure to come in handy’. And inevitably it doesn’t. So now is the time and we are both ready to do this (yes, Tom has his own clutter too – he just pretends that it’s all mine!).¬† Read More

Caramel Cake | Hello! Hooray!

Caramel cake

Today is World Baking Day and so I had to share a cake recipe with you! I made this caramel cake for my Mum’s birthday last month, and the recipe originally comes from the Clandestine Cake Club Cookbook¬†(it’s a recipe by Nelly Ritchie who is in the Newcastle CCC – yay!). It was the first time I had made it but it was super easy – I just went a bit mad with the milk in the buttercream and it ended up being a little too runny as you can see! But it tasted amazing so nobody was too bothered¬†ūüôā¬† Read More

Daisies in a tea cup | Hello! Hooray!

May madness

Hello everyone! Just popping in to apologise for my lack of blogging over the last 10 days or so. It’s May madness in my day job, which means far too much marking in hardly any time at all, and general brain fullness. So not a lot of¬†time for fun things, sadly! But I’m hoping to get a few posts written and scheduled tomorrow, in time for for the coming week. It looks like tomorrow is going to be a bit cold and grey, so that’s perfect for a blogging day!¬† Read More
